For many years, protecting our planet has been part of our aim. In 2016, we laid down multi-years plan in order to decrease the carbon print of the hotel. Here are steps achieved each year and the ones to follow. 2016-2017 - Installation of 50 M2 of solar heated water panels and 2 X 1.500 liters hot water tanks. The system is completed by a fuel burner especially for the night hours. 2017-2018 - Installation of additional 30 M2 of solar heated water panels. - Replacement of 10 air condition units with new Inverter technology units consuming 40% less energy. 2018-2019 - Overhaul of the gardens of the hotel and replacement of the plants watering system with a drops method which provides drops of water directly on the roots of the plants and achieves an economy of around 40% of the needed water. -Renovation of the entire hotel kitchen and replacement of all fridges and deep freezes with much more efficient one (class A or B). 2019-2020 - Replacement all the hotel’s old cast iron water pipes (around 3 km in total) with new insulated pipes in order to reduce to a maximum the loss of heat in the pipes. - Replacement of 10 air condition units with new Inverter technology units consuming 40% less energy. 2020-2021 - Total ban of all one-use plastics at the bar and the restaurant. All replaced with paper or bamboo items (cutlery). - Installation of recycling waste bins around the hotel in order to allow guests to dispose any recyclable items. 2021-2022 - Total ban of all plastic bottles at the bar with except of bottled water which cannot be found on a regular basis in Crete yet. - Introduction of exclusive use of environmentally friendly cleaning products by Housekeeping. 2022-2023 - Replacement of 10 air condition units with new Inverter technology units consuming 40% less energy. - Cooking oil waste is one of the most polluting liquids. We are now keeping all used cooking oil in a specialized barrel and send it to a recycling plant every time it gets full. We have also added a oil trap in the kitchen drains in order to capture any oil residue which originates from kitchenware, plates and glass cleaning process. 2023 to 2025 Next steps, not necessary with the order below, are: - Replacing all remaining air conditioning units. - Replacing all doors and windows with new generation glazing. - Insulating all roofs.
